Now
I live off-grid outside Whitehorse, Yukon, with my partner, our daughter and two dogs.
Work
I work at the Yukon Government on identity management and AI. Anlek Consulting continues alongside it, mostly Rails and Elixir.
AI agents
Outside work I run a small fleet of AI agents on Hermes, Paperclip and OpenClaw, and I’m comparing the three by giving them the same real jobs.
Two problems have taken most of the last six months: letting agents use accounts and services without ever holding the credentials themselves (scoped access, approvals a person has to grant, an audit trail), and a shared memory system for agents, which is close to done.
Infrastructure
The cabin and the servers behind it now have proper monitoring, and nightly backups with restores I’ve actually tested. Most of what’s meant to stay up now runs in containers.
Side projects
I’ve been building voice tools that never leave my own network: a push-to-talk dictation tool for the Mac, and apps that take the audio from off-the-shelf hardware like the Omi wearable and pass it through my own systems instead of a vendor’s cloud. Nothing is shared with other companies.
Writing
The Off-Grid Operator series on this site covered the stack, the agent team, Tailscale, self-hosted memory, what broke, and Docker over satellite. The last post went up in May.
